i didn't even know that the yankees beat the red sox until JUST NOW because i've been buzzing about obama all night. his speech was marvelous. i am more excited than ever. i hope all of you are registered to vote in your respective counties and that you go out on november 4 and vote for the candidate who is going to bring the change that we need!

leak linkage? leakage link?

photo from ptm's myspace

okay, here it is:

portugal. the man-censored colors (leak)

i normally don't like to post leak links but since ptm seem to be pretty thrilled that it leaked, i figured it was fine.

let me know what you think of it. i can't be the only person who is butt-crazy in love with this album, right?

censored colors

i have waiter: you vultures by portugal. the man and i've enjoyed it quite a bit. their new album, censored colors, which isn't due out until september 16, leaked today. i cannot tell you how totally blown away i am by this album. i can't stop listening to it! every track is incredible. i haven't felt this way about a full album in a long, long time.

i urge all of you to check out their tour dates and see if they're coming to a town near you. unfortunately, they're coming to austin when i'm going to be in san francisco for ian and buddy.

i definitely smell a pork product of some type

last night we (my sister, brother-in-law, and myself) were sitting around watching tv and out of nowhere my sister said, "you know what someone should combine? bacon and chocolate!" and i said, "someone has!" last summer when i was at whole foods with meghan, blackie, and dajon, blackie picked up one of the bacon bars, as well as one with curry and coconut. i was repulsed. i love bacon and i love chocolate but i couldn't imagine those 2 mixed together. cecily went to whole foods today to get one. i tried it and it wasn't bad. it was pretty much what i expected it to be; really deep, rich milk chocolate with super salty little pieces of bacon. i'm pretty sure when this item was first introduced to me i was picturing full bacon strips inside of a hersey's bar. haha that isn't what it's like though. i was just browsing the vosges' website and came across the flying chocolate pig. watch the little slideshow thingie, the pictures are hilarious.

i sat down to read the barmaid blog tonight and saw that she had blogged about a couple of customer's asking if she could make a bacon-infused old fashioned. gross gross gross gross. that recipe makes the bacon chocolate bar sound DELICIOUS.

and of course, all of this bacon thought reminded me of the maple bacon bar at voodoo doughnut in portland. if you ever find yourself in portland, do yourself a favor and go there. and order the maple bacon bar!

frivolous chase

for many, many years i have known that danny elfman used to be in oingo boingo. i can't think of a more useless trivia fact to have stored in my memory bank. well tonight, i was finally able to use it! it was actually a question at trivia. i couldn't believe it. the trivia guy didn't even know who danny elfman was. i don't know if that's common or not. i feel like i've always known of him. sadly, we did not win trivia. we came in third. the second place team cheated on their iphones all night. that is really irritating. i would even say that it flustrated me. also, some jackass kept yelling, "FUCK YOUR FACE!" across the room all night long. it was reallllly annoying for two reasons: 1) i think he thought it was extremely funny and it wasn't and 2) a disturbing visual arose every time he said it.

some randomness

first, i would like to send a giant congratulations to one of my favorite couples, amber and lolo, on their engagement!! yay!

on monday amber and i met at spiderhouse so i could see the ring and hear the story. we had a few drinks and talked and talked and talked. i had a blast! and i seriously could not be happier for the two of them. i'm so excited!

i opened a tab inside at spiderhouse and then a waitress FINALLY came by to check on us so i asked her if i could order from her and have it charged to my tab inside. she said that wouldn't be a problem. when we realized it was 8:00 and that amber had some errands to run, we decided to head out. i went inside to close my tab but they didn't have my credit card. i went back outside and waited for the waitress for 5-10 minutes. then i went back inside to find out where the fuck my card was. a few minutes later, the stupid waitress strolled up. apparently she had the card ON HER while she was wondering around on a smoke break or something? i'm not really wild about that.

have you guys yearbooked yourselves yet? i did and it was hilarious!

tonight we are returning to pluckers for trivia. i guess we've only missed a week but it feels like longer! dana left on sunday for a 15 day euro vacation. i miss her so much already! boo.

i know this is hard to read but check out what just came up on our caller id: (new picture!)

yeah, that says "young cy"! haha wtf? i answered it, duh, and it was some paultard (ron paul supporter) calling for my mom. he identified himself as cy charles though. um, okay?

point and shoot rant

did you know that if you have a point and shoot digital camera that it actually takes your pictures in a 4.5x6 format? so if you print the pictures something will be cut off from the top AND bottom of your image. for example, here is a picture that i took with my elph:

alison's head is already kind of cut off because she's too tall for me.

and here it is, cropped as an actual 4x6:

her head is really cut off now. and mine is a little too!

fortunately, most places will print in 4.5x6 format now but it's significantly more expensive than a 4x6 print. however, most people don't know that their pictures aren't 4x6. i guess i just don't understand why digital cameras do that. why can't they just take it the right way? arrrghh.

and one more thing: get prints of your favorite pictures. seriously, what are your kids or grandkids going to find in your attic when you're old? a broken dinosaur of a computer that they can't turn on? an SD card that will be completely obsolete by then? seriously, print print print. and don't print on a photo printer, those are crap. and some of the paper for home photo printing isn't even archival so it's not going to last that long. upload pics to target or walgreens or ritz or whatever. archive your memories. someone is going to want them someday.

over the limit

every time i see this commercial i chuckle a little, at least on the inside. no, i do not think that drunk driving is funny but something about a car full of booze is.

kelly was here

kelly came to town for about 24 hours. i saw him for 4 of those. it was so much fun. we all just sat around and laughed pretty much all night. aww just like old times. i brought the rebel. i haven't been using it much lately so it was good to bust it out.

amber is the most photogenic person i know.

i miss that laugh.

my friends are ridiculous and awesome. ridiculously awesome!

there are a few more in my summer 2008 flickr set.

i'm alive

in case anyone was wondering, i am alive. i have been busy working, watching the olympics, and hanging out with the nephew. i also don't really have anything terribly interesting to blog about. well, i guess when i have more time i will blog about the olympics because, holy shit, they've been amazing.

also something else that is noteworthy, for me, is that buddy and ian ball are playing at the red devil lounge in san francisco on october 18. i will be flying out for the weekend. i am beyond thrilled. this year has been so lame for me in terms of travel (concert wise it's still been pretty good). the last time i flew anywhere was to see ian in san francisco last october. i seriously can't believe it's been so long since i've really gone anywhere. i mean, i went to houston and kansas but those don't really count for me.

google goggles

i have a blog post titled "darvocet sucks" and when you google that phrase, my blog is like, the third result. hahah! another one is the phrase "bruised like a cherry" which is a rilo kiley lyric. if you google that one my blog is the first result. that is freakin' nuts! and this is just general google, not the google blog search option. i've also been found when searching for "mike mussina onesie" which is unfortunate because i don't think such a thing exists. i've written about mike mussina and i've written about onesies, but not together. other searches that have led folks to the blog:

conor oberst acl aftershow
i do not want what i haven't got sinead
ben folds five whatever and ever amen
"jenny lewis" costello
stefanie fox
spoon-gimme fiction

i've also discovered that i have some regular readers who are mysteries to me. comment, folks! tell me about yourselves :)

little stef

so josh posted a pic on facebook of himself during the summer of 1986. i decided to track down a picture of myself from that same summer. i would say my pictures are more cute and josh's are more embarrassing. hahah! after all, i was 3 and he was like 16 or 17. anyway, i scanned them in so i figured i would go ahead and post them here too.

cecily and me somewhere in kansas

dad and me in the creek behind the house. nice shoes AND socks in the creek, pops.

seriously, how cute was i with those sunglasses and that visor? oh man! i could go nuts on a scanning adventure if i felt like it, my mom has TONS of hilarious old pictures. maybe i will actually sit down and scan them someday.

i will cover you

i'm pretty certain that most of you know that i LOVE cover songs. i should clarify that i love AMAZING cover songs. i don't want to hear some lackluster cover of a song that i love. so i decided to make a list of some of my absolute favorite covers. chances are, they're on my faves list because it's a band that i love covering a band that i love. if not, i'll let you know why i like it. i'm writing the original artist, song title, then cover artist.

the band-i shall be released-wilco
big star-thirteen-wilco
kylie minogue-can't get you out of my head-the flaming lips*
the beach boys-god only knows-ben kweller
leonard cohen-chelsea hotel no.2-rufus wainwright
the band-up on cripple creek-gomez
nico-these days-mates of state (the song was written by jackson browne but the first recording was done by nico)
phil collins-against all odds-the postal service
neil young-unknown legend-ben ottewell
kelis-milkshake-buddy*
neil young-after the goldrush-thom yorke
leonard cohen-hallelujah-jeff buckley
trent reznor-hurt-johnny cash*
joni mitchell-woodstock-crosby, stills, nash, and young
tears for fears-mad world-gary jules*
the band-the weight-travis
grateful dead-friend of the devil-lyle lovett, counting crows
vanilla ice-ice ice baby-ben kweller*
dire straits-romeo and juliet-indigo girls

*so in the case of the songs that i denoted with a * i have to say that i like them because they're so drastically different from the original. the artist really makes it their own and i like the cover better than the original.

i could actually keep this going for a while but my ambien is kicking in so i should get off the computer. or at least the blog.

we need a new bar

i'm sad to say that the past few times i've been to creekside, the crowd has been pretty douchey. we're trying to think of a new bar but we've pretty much exhausted all the possibilities. i wouldn't mind going back to hanging out at side bar more except for their bathroom situation. they have ONE toilet for the women. after 11:30 there are never less than 3 girls in line for the bathroom at any given moment. i've had times where i left side bar to go next door to creekside just to pee because they have three toilets. but it's really a pain in the ass to wait in line or go next door.

i don't mind beauty bar but i only like to go there if there's a musical act that i want to see. it gets way too crowded to go there for just a relaxing saturday night. i'm thinking i might have to cycle back to mugshots, where it all began. i also like club deville but their drinks are a lot more spendy than the bars on 7th.

i guess we're just in a rut. and we're getting old. haha! a new bar needs to open up or something.
