maybe i'm not too old for this

this week i had my first of three back-to back-to back concert series that i have scheduled for the next couple of months.

monday-david sedaris@riverbend centre
tuesday-spoon@scoot inn
wednesday-guster@stubb's

okay, so david sedaris wasn't a "concert" but whatever! i was still out, seeing a performance instead of being at home vegging in front of the tv.

david sedaris was absolutely hilarious. i've read most of his books but i've never gone to see him speak before. he's on a lecture series right now so he's just reading random essays that he's written. none of them have been published in a book though so it was all new material to me. and it was fabulous! i had tears in my eyes almost all night from laughing so hard.

spoon was interesting. i personally thought the show was wonderful. the new stuff was good and they played most of my favorites, including some real oldies. the crowd kind of sucked ass though. there was no energy. no singing. no dancing. nothing. usually when i see spoon in austin the crowd is completely nuts. it was very odd. i normally take pride in how awesome the crowds in austin are. i could go see a show in houston one day, then see the same show in austin the next day and the difference is like night and day because of the energy from the crowd. but tuesday night was just weird.

i had the time of my life at guster. i ended up going by myself and that did not bother me at all. i loved every minute of it. i especially loved the part where ben kweller came out and played "i hope tomorrow is like today" and "say it ain't so" (weezer) with guster. it was unbelievable! i've actually had the good luck to see them on stage together once before but it was still quite a treat. and the gusters were sweet as always at the meet and greet. it was a super fun night!

instead of staying home and resting on sunday night in preparation for my week, i went out with lori who was in town on an overnight. surprisingly, it didn't kill me! i totally survived this week. well, so far. i still have friday and saturday to deal with. i can do it! i can do it!

project 365

a couple of years ago i meagerly attempted to do project 365 and gave up after roughly a month. i started it again today so wish me luck! meghan and i actually have a little contest going so whichever one of us gives up first LOSES. i really want to stick with it this time and not just because i don't want to buy meghan drinks next time i see her (the terms of our contest that i came up with...haha) but because i think it will be really cool to look back on it after the year is up. i actually really liked looking back on the month that i chronicled two years ago so i bet a full 12 months will feel great! i'll be posting them at least once a week in that flickr set and i might do a post here on sundays with that week's pictures, i haven't decided yet.

gomez does dallas (and austin and houston)

i know i just saw gomez during sxsw but that doesn't make me any less excited that they're coming to texas june 8-10. and of course i'll be going to all three shows. i can't not see them if they're within a 3 hour drive from me! plus, the sxsw sets were so short...they barely count! carlos and i were emailing back and forth about upcoming shows we're going to and he said, "someone is a little obsessed with gomez, wow." like this is something new? i told him, "actually, going to see gomez in texas is pretty tame for me." and rachel asked me, "aren't you tired of seeing them?" haha nope! my friend bonnie and i are going to roadtrip it for these shows and i could not be more excited! the last time i did a texas roadtrip for gomez was when they were opening for the fray. we had a really fantastic time but those shows kind of blew. i mean, come on...they were opening for the freakin' fray! speaking of opening, i'm anxious to see who they have as an opener on this tour!

    wilco+feist

if you know how to read the interwebs then you probably know that feist has contributed vocals on a track for the upcoming wilco album. i'm excited about this because i totally love feist. i can't wait to hear it! also...you might find yourself wondering, "what do feist and wilco have in common?" well, they (jeff tweedy and feist) both got to me yours truly outside of stubb's last year. haha!
