why is this even an issue?

here is the speech barack obama is going to be giving tomorrow. i am failing to see why this is such a huge issue to people. frankly, i'm embarrassed to live in the same county, state, and country as people who refuse to let their children hear this speech.

ronald reagan and george h. w. bush gave speeches that were similarly directed towards school-age children and aired in school across the country. i don't recall an uproar about those speeches. the school district that i grew up in is showing the speech on wednesday (a day after it originally airs) to students with permission slips signed by their parents. seriously? this is not the sexual education course, this is a speech by the president of the united states! i think the schools that have "opted out" of showing this to students are full of cowards who refuse to stand up to ignorant parents.
