roid rage

i saw the podiatrist today, dr. cornell. he really thought it sounded like a stress fracture and explained that usually when xrays are performed less than 2 weeks after the onset of pain, they might not pick up the fracture. sooo i had to hobble back down to xray and have some more done. they were normal. no fractures or breaks or anything. so the tendinitis diagnosis is essentially accurate. for some reason, i have inflamed tendons. there's not a whole lot that can be done about that but he said he wanted to inject steroids into it today. i'm not great with shots, i hadn't eaten anything all morning/afternoon, and i just wasn't feeling it. it's not that i don't want to get better, because i obviously do, but i just didn't think that today was the best time for a shot. i need to be more prepared, both mentally and physically. he prescribed a course of prednisone for me instead. i didn't get the pills until around 9:00 tonight and the instruction were to take SIX pills at once, then one a day for the next 2 weeks.

6 pills at once, at night...not a good idea. do you know the side effects of prednisone? difficulty sleeping, feeling of a whirling motion, increased appetite, increased sweating, indigestion, mood changes, nervousness. ummm, i think i exhibit most of those things even when i'm not on prednisone! i've taken it before, and all i really remember was being grouchy and hooongry ALL the time. and to be honest, it's so damn hot here i don't really know if i would notice any increased sweating.

so, aside from the 'roids, what else happened at my doctor's appointment today? i was "upgraded" from the short boot to the tall boot. ugh. my old boot had 3 velcro straps, this one has 5. i seriously can barely walk with it on. i'm supposed to wear it all the time too. the only times i can take it off are to drive, sleep, and shower. my current "sentence" is 3 weeks. please please please cross your fingers and toes that 3 weeks is all i need. my philly trip is in 4 weeks and i soooo do not want to go there with this mammoth boot.
